AEK Athens B.C. signs Williams

The board of AEK Athens B.C. announces the signing of Jawad Williams (33 years, 2.06m). The American forward signed today (13/06) a one-year contract with the ”Queen”.

Jawad Hason Williams was born (February 19, 1983) in Cleveland, Ohio and started to play basketball at St. Edward High School of Lakewood. He graduated from University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Williams started as a senior for the Tar Heel team that won the 2005 NCAA tournament. He averaged 13.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in his senior season.

Williams was not selected in the 2005 NBA Draft.  After playing in Spain, Japan and Israel, Williams joined the Cleveland Cavaliers’ summer league team in July, 2008 and made the team’s training camp roster. On October 23, the Cavs waived veteran guard Ronald Dupree, and Williams became a full-fledged member of an NBA team for the first time in his career.

He played in his first regular season NBA game and scored his first points on December 12, 2008, against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Williams was waived by the Cavs on January 7, 2009.  In the February of 2011, he signed with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. For the 2011-12 season, Williams signed with Paris-Levallois Basket in France. In the February of 2014, he signed with Pınar Karşıyaka of Turkey for the rest of the 2013–14 season.

The last two seasons he played with Royal Halı Gaziantep of Turkey. Williams averaged 10.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 2014-2015 season and 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds in 2015-2016 season.
